Kilifi Citizen Forum uses the Human Rights Based Approach of development in implementing its programmatic work. Human Rights Based Approach is a strategy that aims at promoting sustainable development through promotion of respect for Human Rights and Human dignity. The Approach acknowledges that poverty is a human rights violation, and that poverty in itself is a root cause of a number of human rights violations; and that the overall responsibility for meeting human rights obligations rests with the state. This responsibility rest on all organs of the state both at the National and County Governments. The Approach also acknowledges that citizens are the owners of the state and Counties; hence, the state and counties should be transparent and accountable to citizens
Community-Led Change Planning
Kilifi Citizens Forum believes that lasting development begins with empowered communities. In the spirit of leave no one behind, community-Led Change Planning process ensures community members of different social status participate in identifying the challenges affecting them and come up with project proposals to address the challenges. The process assists in coming up with home grown solutions and grassroot institution to champion resource mobilization and implementation of the community projects. Hence, strengthening grassroots leadership and support citizens to take an active role in decisions making on their social, economic and environmental wellbeing.

Rights, Inclusion and Social Justice
Kilifi Citizen Forum champion human rights, equality, and inclusive participation by creating platforms where women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups can raise their voices and influence governance processes such as government plans, legislations and policy formulation, reviews and implementation.
Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship
Kilifi Citizen Forum work with communities to promote climate resilience, environmental conservation, sustainable resource management and awareness on the effects of climate change within Kilifi County.
Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement
The Forum empowers young people through mentorship, civic education, innovation and leadership opportunities that encourage active participation in governance, peacebuilding and community transformation.
Transparency and Public Accountability
Kilifi Citizen Forum promotes open governance by strengthening public participation, social accountability, policy advocacy, and citizen oversight to ensure leaders and institutions remain responsive to community needs.
